Whilst it’s business as usual for most the Premier League’s clubs this weekend, Manchester United and Southampton have something a little more interesting going on, as the two sides will be competing for the EFL Cup, to see who becomes crowned Champions of the domestic trophy in the final taking place later this afternoon.
The two sides will be famously facing off at Wembley, and with both sides proving to possess some of the best quality in English football, the game should prove to be a close affair.
Manchester United will undoubtedly be favourites to win the competition, with manager Jose Mourinho being used to this sort of occasion, as well as his side having gone unbeaten in their last 16 Premier League games.
However, Southampton are hardly a bad side.
Not only have they proven themselves in getting to the final of the competition, but they also sit solidly in mid-table of the Premier League.
As a result, United will have to be on form if they are to break down the Southerners, who could potentially either steal a win or hold out for extra time and/ or penalties.
Hull nearly showed the Red Devils up in the Semi’s after all, and with the greater quality that Southampton have they could easily do the same.
Having said this, however, it seems wise to back Mourinho’s men to take home the trophy, as the manager will be wanting to get his first silverware at the club, and with the Manchester side having gone unbeaten in so many Premier League games, it seems unlikely that Southampton will be the ones to crack this in a cup final of all things.
Betting wise, the Manchester win in 90 minutes at 4/5 looks set to attract plenty of interest, Zlatan Ibrahimovic to score first at 7/2 looks just about big enough.
For us, Juan Mata looks a man in form and we fancy the Spaniard to score at some point during the match – he can be backed at 9/1 first goalscorer or 3/1 anytime.
For a little more value, Manchester Utd to win and both teams to score double at 3/1 could have plenty of legs.
Southampton have scored a few in recent weeks and the Saints could nick a goal. On present form however, United should simply outscore them.
With so much at stake, it is unlikely the Reds will bottle it.
