Tottenham keen on £25m raid for French winger involved in 31 goals last season

Tottenham are reportedly stepping up their bid to sign Monaco winger Thomas Lemar, and could bid up to £25m to prise him away from the Ligue 1 champions.

The 21-year-old was a pivotal part of Monaco’s Ligue 1 title-winning campaign this year as well as getting to the semi-finals of the Champions League, scoring 14 goals and providing 17 assists in 55 games in all competitions.

In turn, it’s no real surprise that Tottenham are interested in signing him, as per L’Equipe, with Mauricio Pochettino looking to bolster his squad this summer and take them to the next level both domestically and in Europe.

The report notes that Spurs are in competition with Juventus and so it will be difficult to convince him of a move this summer, while The Sun add that he’s valued at around £25m which shouldn’t be a problem for the north London outfit.

It’s undoubtedly more bad news for Monaco though having just seen Bernardo Silva move to Manchester City this week, with Leonardo Jardim’s title-winning squad being ripped apart.

As a result, they may well play hard-ball with certain individuals that they don’t consider sellable, and it remains to be seen whether or not Lemar falls into that category.

Having finished second in the Premier League and fallen short in the FA Cup as well as in Europe, if Tottenham want to move on to the next level then they’ll have to buy wisely this summer to strengthen in key positions.

Adding another winger to the squad is seemingly a priority for Pochettino as he’s been linked with other players in the same position in recent months. Now time will tell if Lemar is the solution to his problem.
