Former Liverpool manager on brink of Premier League return as pressure on Palace boss intensifies

Former Liverpool and England manager Roy Hodgson has been touted as the favourite to take the Crystal Palace hot seat should current boss Frank de Boer be dismissed from his post.

The Mirror claim that de Boer has no idea if he will remain at Palace much longer after becoming the first top-flight team in 93 years to lose their first four games without scoring a single goal following their 1-0 loss away at Burnley on Sunday.

Despite this, Eagles chairman Steve Parish reluctant to show the former Ajax man the door but may do sooner rather than later if a replacement can be lined up straight away.

When asked about whether the club could be in for a relegation battle this season he said:

“I don’t know. I just focus on what I can control and think about Southampton from today. That is all I can do.”

“What other people think, they have to decide, but while I’m still the manager of Palace, I will give 100 per cent,” he continued.

The Mirror also highlights former boss Sam Allardyce as a potential successor despite leaving the club just four months ago. However, they go on to state that he is incredibly reluctant to return and so leaves the path clear for 70-year-old Hodgson, who is keen to get back into the management game.

The paper says Hodgson turned down offers from abroad, namely China, to eye a position in English football.

Hodgson had a dismal England tenure after Euro 2012 as he oversaw the Three Lions failing to get out the group in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil before losing to minnows Iceland in the last sixteen in Euro 2016.
