It hasn’t quite been the start to the season that AC Milan supporters were expecting as Vincenzo Montella and his men have had their troubles.
After eight Serie A games, Milan sit in 10th place in the table with four wins and four defeats, as ultimately they’ve come up short in their big tests against tougher opposition in Lazio, Sampdoria, Roma and Inter.
There were arguably more positive signs than negative in the derby defeat on Sunday though, as they were unlucky not to come away with at least a point in a thrilling encounter.
However, while the Rossoneri continue to march on in the Europa League, Montella, the squad and the hierarchy know the importance of qualifying for the Champions League next season and reinforcements could be on the way.
Calciomercato report that at least two January signings will arrive, with a winger and a midfielder on the agenda. However, they’ve gone further by revealing that Udinese ace Seko Fofana is a specific target.
The 22-year-old is valued at €15m, as per the report, and would undoubtedly be an important addition to the squad as Milan currently lack an alternative to Franck Kessie in a crucial role in midfield.
The summer signing looked fatigued prior to the international break and was substituted at half-time against Inter after a poor display. In turn, being afforded more rest and being given more competition will surely only help his development moving forward as Milan need another player with similar characteristics in terms of energy, combativeness and quality on the ball.
Milan also lack wingers as Giacomo Bonaventura and Suso are the only two real options that Montella has, and so it’s understandable as to why the report above suggests that that is an area that could be addressed too.
However, whether it’s Fofana or another midfielder, that has to be sorted out in January, as ultimately it’s difficult to see the Italian giants getting through a whole campaign being so thin in that department.
