Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t having the best of seasons as it is, and so he could have done without this clip going viral and causing a stir.
The clip in question is seen below, with Atletico Madrid defender Juanfran beating him in a foot race to get to a loose ball in Real’s goalless draw with their city rivals on Saturday night.
Ronaldo has managed just eight goals in 14 appearances in all competitions so far this season, which on face value is actually a decent tally, but when compared to his ridiculously high standards, this can actually be considered a crisis.
With just one goal to his name in La Liga, he’s struggled in domestic football in particular, and many jumped at the opportunity to mock him and suggest that ‘he’s finished’ after the Juanfran moment specifically.
The 32-year-old is no doubt entering the latter stages of his illustrious career, but it wouldn’t surprise us at all if he managed to bounce back and go on a stunning run to help ignite Madrid’s faltering season as they fell 10 points behind Barcelona on Saturday and are in second place in their Champions League group.
Ronaldo scored a staggering 50 goals or more in six straight seasons between 2011 and 2016, while it dropped to 42 in all competitions last season. Perhaps this is the next stage in his decline, or perhaps it’s merely just fuel to fire his motivation to bounce back even better. It’s clear what fans of his rivals below think though…
