Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has provided a worrying update on his future as he admits he’s in no hurry to sign a new contract with the club.
The Belgium international’s current deal is due to expire at the end of next season, and Marca recently claimed he remains one of Real Madrid’s top transfer targets in goal.
When asked about his situation, Courtois did his best to brush off talk about immediately extending his deal, and said he’s happy to put it off until the summer, which would not leave Chelsea a huge amount of time to strike an agreement.
‘The most important thing is to perform the best,’ Courtois is quoted in the Metro.
‘The contract, Chelsea must deal with my agent but I don’t think there are any developments.

‘There are so many games that I need to think about my own performances. Then at the end of the season there is time for talks.’
As Arsenal have learned the hard way, it’s far from ideal going into a season with star players approaching the ends of their contracts, with the Gunners currently uncertain over what will happen with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil next term.
If Chelsea do not begin talks with Courtois until the summer, negotiations will need to go pretty swimmingly for the Blues not to find themselves facing the prospect of him leaving on a free the following year.
