Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has been contacted by his former Real Madrid team-mate Sergio Ramos, who is urging him to snub a transfer to Barcelona.

This could be good news for Manchester United, with Sabah also claiming this week that a move to Old Trafford was his preferred and most likely next destination.

However, in a rather back-and-forth transfer saga, Ozil is also thought to be keen on a return to La Liga, with Don Balon claiming he’s likely to ignore Ramos’ advice and take up an offer from Barcelona.

The Germany international looks an ideal fit for Barca with his technical style of play and superb range of passing, but the move would not be without some controversy after his ties with their bitter rivals Real Madrid.

Don Balon claim Ramos is eager to avoid seeing his old colleague in Barcelona colours, and Manchester United will certainly thank the Spaniard if this does end up persuading him.

The Mirror claimed earlier in the season that Ozil was already talking up a potential move to United with his team-mates at Arsenal as he was so confident of the deal going through.

The 29-year-old is set to be out of contract at the Emirates Stadium next summer, in what will be a big blow to Arsene Wenger as he also faces the same situation with Alexis Sanchez.

Reports this week from the Mirror claim PSG have moved ahead of Manchester City in the race to sign the Chilean, which would be another small boost for Arsenal if they hope to avoid seeing their star duo leave them for Premier League rivals.
