Arsenal and Liverpool could be about to be dealt a blow in their pursuit of Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, after reports have emerged that Schalke are willing to make him their best paid player.
This is according to the Mirror, who state that both clubs have outlined the player as a target, and that the German outfit are ready to offer the midfielder a deal worth £150,000-a-week, which if he agrees to it, would see Goretzka become the best paid player at the club.
The news outlet are also reporting that the Bundesliga side are prepare to insert a £50M buy-out clause into Goretzka’s new deal.
Since breaking into the first team at Schalke, Goretzka has impressed critics and fans alike with his performances.
In 129 appearances for the German side, the 22-year-old has managed to bag 19 goals and 13 assists, a decent record considering the player’s young age.
So far this campaign, Goretzka has got off to a flying start, as the midfielder has managed to clock up four goals in just 10 league appearances for Die Königsblauen.
Gorezkta has been deployed in a variety of positions during his time with Schalke so far, with the player being played in every midfield position possible since his debut in 2012.
