Alexis Sanchez, Gareth Bale: Power ranking Manchester United’s nine attacking transfer targets, with £90m Chelsea star ahead of Real Madrid duo

Manchester United could be about to make a big splash in the transfer market, with speculation hotting up that they’re in for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.

It’s no secret that Jose Mourinho could do with more spark up front this season, with his side struggling to break teams down, particularly in the big games as they’ve fallen well behind Manchester City in the title race.

But Sanchez is just one of many top attacking players being linked with United in recent times, so we’ve put together a list of what seem to be the nine main targets.

We’ve also ranked them from worst to best below – do you agree about who would be most suitable for United’s needs at the moment?

Lucas Moura

Lucas Moura to Manchester United could be on the cards again

Speculation has been hotting up that Manchester United could sign Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain, with the Brazil international no longer a guaranteed starter in the side.

The Metro report that Moura was even left out of PSG’s latest squad, further fuelling talk that he could be on his way out and heading to Old Trafford.

While no doubt a decent player on his day, we’ve ranked the 25-year-old last in our list due to his struggles for consistency with PSG and with generally stronger performers being linked with the club elsewhere.

Justin Kluivert

Justin Kluivert is a rumoured transfer target for Manchester United

Yahoo Sport recently linked United with a move for Ajax wonderkid Justin Kluivert, who looks a real talent in attack based on his early performances for the club.

However, the Dutch teenager is not currently at the level of some of the other names Jose Mourinho appears to be looking at.

While Kluivert could be a great signing for the future, now is probably not the time for him to come in and deal with the pressure of being first choice in the Reds’ attack.

Malcom

Malcom is a transfer target for Manchester United

The Daily Mail recently linked United with a move for Bordeaux starlet Malcom, valued at around £50million.

Few would complain if the promising young Brazilian came in, but as with Kluivert above, he remains relatively unproven at the top level so may not be ideal just for the moment.

On top of that, the signing might just get trickier with Gianluca Di Marzio also linking Malcom as a transfer target for Arsenal.

Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale continues to be linked with a transfer to Manchester United

It feels like Manchester United have been linked with Gareth Bale for years now, with the Welshman not always at his best for Real Madrid and perhaps better off moving back to the Premier League.

The Sun claimed again earlier this season that United could be in for the former Tottenham winger, and there’s no doubt that he’d be a fine addition if he gets back to his best.

Still, Bale doesn’t rank higher in our list due to his recent injury problems and his age meaning he may now be past the peak of his powers.

Marco Asensio

Marco Asensio could be just what Manchester United need

Slightly better for United could be Bale’s Real Madrid team-mate Marco Asensio, who also continues to be linked with a transfer to Old Trafford.

Don Balon linked the highly-rated young Spaniard with United back in November, while Diario Gol recently claimed the club could let him go as they pursue a move for Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.

With skill, intelligence and a rocket of a left foot, Asensio could be an ideal signing for United right now, with the only questionmark over why he’s no longer a regular starter at the Bernabeu.

Thomas Lemar

Manchester United are the latest club to be linked with Thomas Lemar

One of the top attacking midfielders in Europe right now, Monaco’s Thomas Lemar has also been linked by Yahoo Sport with a possible move to Manchester United.

The 22-year-old could fit in perfectly in the Premier League, and few fans would complain if this signing was selected above other possible targets.

Still, the Liverpool Echo suggest that it is Liverpool and Arsenal looking most likely to battle it out for Lemar’s signature at the moment.

Antoine Griezmann

Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United transfer rumours have not gone away

Along with Bale, the Sun also linked United strongly with an approach for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann earlier this season.

The France international has stood out as a world class attacker for Atletico in recent seasons and he could fit into a variety of roles at Old Trafford.

Capable of playing as a striker, winger or number ten, Griezmann is certainly up there with the very best players United could hope to sign right now.

Eden Hazard

Chelsea star Eden Hazard has been linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid

Linked as a shock £90million target for United by the Sun recently, there’s no doubt Eden Hazard would be a dream signing for United.

A move for the Belgian perhaps remains unrealistic, but he is certainly up there with the best players in the world on his day and one who’d immediately solve that problem position for the Red Devils.

As noted already, however, Diario Gol claim Real Madrid are determined to get him, so while he’d be one of the best signings United could make, it’s surely not going to happen unless there is some huge major twist in the saga.

Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez has emerged as a shock transfer target for Manchester United

Emerging as a shock target for United yesterday, the Manchester Evening News now even suggest Mourinho’s side could be ahead of Manchester City in the running for Alexis Sanchez’s signature.

The Chile international is out of contract in the summer so could leave for a reduced fee this January, and we’ve ranked him as the best attacking player linked with the club at the moment.

Sanchez is a proven goalscorer and creator in the Premier League, and the bonus of beating rivals City to his signature means he’d perfectly fit the bill for United right now.
