10 best Premier League signings of the season: Mohamed Salah joined by two Liverpool new-boys, Manchester United & Arsenal stars also feature

With no Premier League or international football on today, we’ll have to entertain ourselves and what better time to look back at who have been the best Premier League signings of the 2017/18 season?

MORE: 10 worst Premier League signings of the season

Yes, of course it’s blindingly obvious that Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is the clear winner by an absolute country mile, but who else makes our list?

Read on as we rank from 10-1 the best Premier League signings of the season, with big names from Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham featuring, though hats off to Jurgen Klopp for getting two other of his astute purchases in there…

10) Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Arsenal)

A slightly rogue entry, but we’re putting Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the top ten on the basis that he’s arrived for virtually nothing and should prove a great addition for next season.

For now, the Armenia international continues to settle in and adjust to his new club, but actually even considering the change in the middle of the season, he’s done pretty well.

The 29-year-old already has two goals and five assists in just ten appearances, and there’s surely more to come from a talented playmaker who’s finally in a team almost perfectly suited to his playing style.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan should prove a fine signing for Arsenal

9) Davinson Sanchez (Tottenham)

A great find from Ajax, Davinson Sanchez has shown plenty of promise in a strong first season at Tottenham.

Still only 21 years of age, the Colombia international has a bright future in the game and his form has already seen even the excellent Toby Alderweireld lose his place in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

8) Harry Maguire (Leicester City)

Another defender who’s made a real impression is Harry Maguire, who moved from Hull to Leicester for just £12million – sure to be a bargain in years to come as top Premier League sides must be wondering how they missed out on him.

The 25-year-old already looks a shoe-in for England’s World Cup squad and maybe even in Gareth Southgate’s starting XI after impressing against the Netherlands this week, and all in all Leicester can feel very pleased with this signing.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been a hit since leaving Arsenal for Liverpool

7) Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Liverpool)

A player who’s had to prove a lot of people wrong, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has certainly made an impression at Liverpool.

The former Arsenal man got off to a slow start as he adjusted to Jurgen Klopp’s side, but now looks a fitter and more productive player after settling with the Reds.

It’s damning for Arsenal, however, who failed to get him to reach anything like this kind of form in six years on their books, and for Chelsea who apparently missed out on him.

6) Kyle Walker (Manchester City)

Many laughed at his price tag when Kyle Walker moved between Tottenham and Manchester City, but few are talking about it now.

The England right-back has been absolutely superb and looked a great fit for Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side as they chase the treble.

Maybe a tad overpriced, but Walker is ideal for this City side and was just what they needed to fill an important area of the team.

Romelu Lukaku has been prolific for Manchester United

5) Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United)

He divides opinion, but Romelu Lukaku has surely shown his worth for Manchester United in a very decent first season that shows the promise of much more to come.

The Belgium international made a flying start before hitting a dry spell, but is now on form again and now has 25 goals and seven assists to his name in 44 appearances.

Remarkably, Lukaku is still only 24 and you feel the best is yet to come from him at Old Trafford.

4) Andrew Robertson (Liverpool)

What a find. Barely anyone batted an eyelid when Liverpool signed Andrew Robertson for what looks like peanuts in modern football money, but he’s been an absolute revelation.

The Scotland international is now firmly ahead of Alberto Moreno in the pecking order at left-back, with energy and quality on the ball that makes him ideal for how Klopp likes his side to play.

3) Nemanja Matic (Manchester United)

In third place it’s another Manchester United signing, with Nemanja Matic a real bright spark in a largely disappointing campaign.

The Serbia international was bizarrely allowed to leave Chelsea for United in the summer and has slotted in perfectly as Jose Mourinho’s midfield general.

Chelsea won’t believe they made such a big mistake, with Matic playing a key role for one of their biggest rivals while their replacement signings in midfield have all flopped spectacularly.

Nemanja Matic has been Manchester United’s gain and Chelsea’s loss

2) Ederson (Manchester City)

Not bad for a goalkeeper, eh? Ederson has undoubtedly been a world class addition for Manchester City, even managing to stand out in a side that dominates possession and plays such stunning attacking football.

Quite simply, the Brazil international is both a fantastic shot-stopper and quality footballer when he gets the ball to feet, which is important in Guardiola’s sides.

Pep might’ve got it badly wrong with Claudio Bravo last season, but Ederson deserves his place among the top Premier League signings of the season.

1) Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Top scorer in the Premier League. Most goals ever by a player in their debut season for Liverpool. More goals than former Chelsea team-mate Eden Hazard in the last two seasons put together.

And somehow Mohamed Salah cost just £34m – Liverpool have done one of the truly outstanding pieces of business of the last decade here.

Surely set to win the Golden Boot and quite possibly PFA Player of the Year, Salah has been a joy to watch and could yet fire Liverpool to Champions League glory if he and the rest of the team carry on as they are at the moment.

Mohamed Salah is easily signing of the season by Liverpool
