How Liverpool could line up next season following £150M+ summer spending spree

Liverpool have, probably, had the best and most productive summer out of any team in Europe so far this transfer window, with the Reds managing to add to their already fantastic squad with a number of signings.

With stars like Alisson, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho all sealing moves to Anfield already this summer, it seems as if Jurgen Klopp is building a side that is truly capable of pushing Man City and Co all the way in the league this season.

Despite having a strong start last year, the Reds tailed off towards the back end of the season and only ended up scraping the last Champions League spot ahead of rivals Chelsea.

Some fans say this was down to the fact that the club managed to reach the Champions League final, however Reds fans won’t have any excuses this year should they finish in a similar place in the league.

So, following their frantic summer, we’ve decided to see just how Liverpool could line-up next season as they look to win their first ever Premier League title.

Defence

With new signing Alisson, who joined from Roma for £67M this summer as per Sky Sports, surely going to start between the sticks for the Reds, they’re set to have a lot less issues with their goalkeepers this season now the Brazilian is on board.

After finishing last campaign very strongly, and even managing to steal a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup, Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to have enough over Nathaniel Clyne to command a starting place under Klopp.

Dejan Lovren’s excellent showing at the World Cup for Croatia should see him start next to Virgil Van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.

Van Dijk and Lovren will surely start at the heart of the Reds’ defence this campaign

And despite not playing regularly in the first half of last season, Andy Robertson wowed Liverpool fans with his displays towards the end of their campaign, and could easily start over both James Milner and Alberto Moreno at left-back.

Midfield

With the defence sorted, here’s where the tricky decisions are set to be made.

The centre of the park is where Liverpool easily have the most depth in, with Jurgen Klopp set to have all of Milner, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana to pick from this season.

With Henderson being club captain, one would presume that he’s going to start every possible game for the Reds in all major competitions.

This now leaves two spots open if the Reds are going to play the same 4-3-3 formation they deployed last season.

With the ability he has at his disposal, and his familiarity with playing a high-pressing style from his days with RB Leipzig, Keita, who cost £48M as per the Independent, would be the perfect player to start in a midfield three for Klopp this year.

Keita’s high-octane play style should see him fit in perfectly with Klopp’s side

This leaves just one position left, and following his move from Monaco this summer, it would surely have to go to Fabinho, who cost the club an initial fee of £39M as per BBC, as he would provide fantastic options defensively and offensively in the middle of the park for the Reds.

It’s a shame to see stars like Wijnaldum and Lallana have to miss out on a starting spot, however with the club in all four major competitions this year, we’re sure the fringe players will get the chances to impress Klopp in the early rounds of those.

Attack

Does this section really need doing?

Liverpool had, and the stats don’t lie, one of the best attacks in the world last year, with trio Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and main man Mohamed Salah frightening defences across Europe.

The trio’s link-up play was excellent throughout last campaign, and there was rarely a game in which neither of them scored.

We should expect to see Mane, Salah and Firmino lead the line for Liverpool next season

Despite signing Xherdan Shaqiri this summer from Stoke for £13M (fee as per BBC), and having stars like Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings at their disposal, it would be absolutely shocking to see Jurgen Klopp change his forward line for this upcoming season.

Liverpool’s defence could be a lot more secure than it was last season with Van Dijk and Robertson set to start from the get-go, as well as Alisson in between the sticks to provide a little bit more security.

The Reds’ midfield is a thing of beauty, with the inclusion of Fabinho and Keita set to greatly improve the overall quality they have in the middle, as well as making their side a lot more balanced.

And if all of their attacking trident start next season, Reds fans could be in for quite a run as their side look to push on all front and claim their first piece of major silverware since 2012.
