Arsenal star on verge of snubbing transfer offers to sign new long-term contract

Arsenal star Alex Iwobi is on the verge of signing a new four-year deal at the Emirates Stadium following ongoing talks with the club since the end of last season.

The deal should keep the 22-year-old midfielder at Arsenal until 2022, according to the Daily Mirror. They also report that Iwobi has been the subject of transfer interest from several clubs this summer, including Everton, AC Milan and Lazio.

The Nigerian international is a product of the Gunners’ youth system and is the latest in a long line of players at the club being tied down with new long-term contracts.

The Mirror states that stars such as Mesut Ozil, Granit Xhaka, Calum Chambers and Rob Holding have all pledged their futures to Arsenal via fresh contracts in 2018, with Iwobi now looking set to join them in the coming days.

The midfielder has made 65 appearances for the North Londoners since joining up with the senior squad in 2015 and contributed eight goals in the process.

Arsenal have just landed in Singapore ahead of their latest pre-season tournament which will pit them against Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint Germain.

Despite Iwobi failing to kick on under previous manager Arsene Wenger, he has shown some promise and fans will hope the appointment of new head coach Unai Emery can be a positive influence on the player’s career from this point onwards.
