Chelsea are reportedly poised to ensure that N’Golo Kante snubs interest from Paris Saint-Germain by offering him a lucrative new contract.

The French international is an absolutely crucial cog for the Blues, as evidenced by his influence since his move from Leicester City two years ago.

Things didn’t go to plan for Chelsea last season, but it was no coincidence that Kante’s arrival for the previous campaign helped lead them to the Premier League title, a year on from him winning it with Leicester City.

His defensive work and energy coupled with his ability to set up attacks quickly while effortlessly covering ground makes him an indispensable player, and it appears as though Maurizio Sarri agrees.

According to The Times, Chelsea will offer the 27-year-old a new deal which will pay him £290,000-a-week over five years, which will double his current salary and make him the club’s best-paid player.

Kante will have a pivotal role to play under Sarri in providing protection in front of the backline, while also looking to dictate the tempo of the game with a possession-based style of play alongside Jorginho in the heart of the Chelsea line-up.

In turn, it would come as no surprise if the details in the report are accurate, as Sarri will hope to be able to rely on the Frenchman to provide the steeliness required in midfield to help Chelsea get back to competing for major honours.

Having arrived to replace compatriot Antonio Conte this summer, the last thing that the Italian tactician will want is to see the club’s best players prised away and so perhaps this touted new contract could be another factor in convincing Kante to stay.
