Video: Tottenham ‘nowhere near’ satisfying Aston Villa’s asking price for Jack Grealish, says Steve Bruce

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has reiterated the club’s stance on potential sales and has insisted Tottenham aren’t close to signing star talent Jack Grealish.

The 22-year-old emerged as Villa’s star man last season, as he continued his development and matured into a creative spark for the side in their push for promotion back to the Premier League.

Unfortunately for them, their run ended in heartbreak in the Championship promotion playoff with defeat to Fulham at Wembley, and that in turn sparked question marks over whether or not they could keep hold of their best players.

Further, as noted by Sky Sports, due to reported financial woes, it was suggested that they could face axing players against their will, but the introduction of new ownership last month has seemingly changed the position of the Championship giants.

As noted by manager Bruce below, he has insisted that the owners have stated their intention to not sell players this summer and that Spurs haven’t even made a formal bid for Grealish as of yet.

Whether or not one arrives before the transfer deadline next week remains to be seen, but as per Bruce’s hint, it would seem as though discussions haven’t moved the respective parties closer to reaching a deal.

Grealish bagged three goals and eight assists in 34 games last season, and should he remain at Villa in the upcoming campaign, he’ll be expected to play a pivotal role in their latest bid to return to the top flight.
