Manchester United are reportedly set to complete the transfer of Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham in a £60million deal.
This is according to the Daily Mirror, who claim Mourinho had specifically requested the club’s board to deliver a deal for a top class and experienced centre-back in this transfer window.
The Mirror add that United are now expected to wrap this deal up in the next 48 hours as Spurs buckled on keeping hold of the Belgium international.
Alderweireld has been one of the finest defensive players in the Premier League in recent years, helping Mauricio Pochettino turn Tottenham into a rock-solid outfit at the back.
United will now hope the 29-year-old can have a similar impact at Old Trafford and provide the upgrade needed on players like Chris Smalling and Phil Jones to help the Red Devils close the gap on neighbours Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s men ran away with the title last term and it seems clear big investment like this has been needed at United in order to improve their title chances this term.
Fred has already signed from Shakhtar Donetsk and Alderweireld looks another high class addition if this move does go through in the coming days.
