Bad news for Real Madrid: Influential figure set to inform club of desire to leave

Having already lost Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, the last thing Real Madrid want is to see another fundamental player leave ahead of the new season.

Coupled with the transition from Zinedine Zidane to successor Julen Lopetegui, this season could be tricky for Los Blancos as they’ll be under the usual pressure to deliver silverware too.

In turn, they’ll be keen to keep the squad together with the new La Liga campaign just a week away, but according to Mundo Deportivo, midfield maestro Luka Modric is set to request permission to leave the Bernabeu in order to sign for Serie A giants Inter.

After overcoming a difficult start to life in the Spanish capital, the Croatian international has established himself as a pivotal piece in Madrid’s recent success, dominating and dictating games in midfield alongside the likes of Toni Kroos and Casemiro.

With that in mind, it would surely be a huge blow for the reigning European champions if he was to leave, as it would leave a major hole in their midfield with little time remaining in the transfer window to fill it with a quality replacement.

The report claims that Modric is set to meet with club president Florentino Perez, and so it remains to be seen whether or not his alleged desire to leave paves the way for an exit.

Real Madrid will seemingly have the final say in whether or not a transfer gets the green light, but it’s not ideal if Modric does wish to leave and start a new challenge elsewhere as the 32-year-old has been irreplaceable in midfield during their recent run which has seen the club win a La Liga title, four Champions League trophies, three FIFA Club World Cups and many more trophies.
