Unai Emery’s reign as Arsenal manager started with a defeat, as they lost 2-0 to defending Premier League champions Manchester City.

Uninspiring performances from players such as Granit Xhaka and Shkodran Mustafi couldn’t be overshadowed against a side of City’s calibre, as Guardiola’s men strolled to victory.

Arsenal attempted to mirror the style of play City have so joyously adopted – but with little success. The Gunners’ attempts to build from the back weren’t enough to disturb City’s rhythm and confidence going into this game.

The north London side can come away from the game thanking the Gods above that City didn’t take their chances to extend their lead even further, with today’s match exposed a large gap in quality between the two sides.

Gunners fans will be hoping that the side come out with a clear identity and increased intensity in their next Premier League matchup against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

This game will pit both new managers Maurizio Sarri and Unai Emery against each other in a colossal battle between two of England’s biggest sides.
