Man United fans have been handed some great news, as the Mirror are reporting that superstar shot-stopper David De Gea is close to signing a new contract at the club worth a mammoth £200,000-a-week.

27-year-old De Gea joined Manchester United from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011 for a fee reported to be £18.9m by BBC Sport.

Since then, the goalkeeper has come on leaps and bounds for the Red Devils, and the days where United fans questioned the signing of the keeper are long gone.

De Gea is a Premier League champion with United, having won the league in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge back in 2012/13

The Spaniard has also managed to win the prestigious Premier League Golden Glove for his fantastic efforts between the sticks for United last season.

As well as those accolades, the Spanish international has also managed to help the club win the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League during his stint with the Red Devils.

As per the Mirror, United boss Jose Mourinho confirmed the news of a renewed contract by saying:

“David is a Manchester United player, he will sign a new contract as soon as possible, he likes it here. We love him, we want him to stay. He wants to stay.”

Signing De Gea to a new deal is massive for United and their fans, as the Spaniard is now regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and losing him to any other club in the world would come as a huge blow for the Red Devils and their supporters.
