Pep Guardiola and Manchester City didn’t change their winning formula in the summer transfer window, but look set to make some major signings next summer with Guardiola to be handed a mammoth £407m transfer war chest, according to a report by Spanish outlet Don Balon.
The report states that Pep’s primary target for next year’s transfer window is Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane.

The piece states Guardiola is willing to offer more than double the world record fee for a defender when he plots a £180m swoop for the French World Cup winner.
The former Barcelona manager will be well aware of the defender’s ability. At a tender 25 years of age Varane has shown immense maturity whilst partnering Sergio Ramos in central defence as Los Blancos have dominated Europe winning the Champions League a record-breaking three times in a row.
Signing Varane would be considered one of the biggest moves in world football and a statement of intent from Manchester City as they look to steal the limelight from neighbours Manchester United in the coming years.
Should Guardiola recruit Varane next summer the beginning of a new dynasty with Manchester City will be well under way for the Spaniard.
Despite having the likes of Nicolas Otamendi, John Stones and Aymeric Laporte on their books, landing a player like Varane would no doubt be seen as a step up, with the player a proven winner with an impressive trophy haul for club and country.
