Arsenal ace pictured holding up new club’s kit, with surprise squad number…

Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson has been snapped holding up a Hoffenheim shirt ahead of any official confirmation of the youngster’s move to the Bundesliga.

Goal reported earlier this week that the England youth international was heading to Germany on loan, and it does now look like it’s close to being official.

The image below has surfaced online, with the versatile attacker shown holding up the Hoffenheim shirt with his name and surprise new squad number on it – which appears to have been sent to Goal’s Chris Wheatley from the player’s father.

Despite often playing as a wing-back or midfielder for Arsenal, Nelson looks to have been given the no.9 jersey with his new club, perhaps suggesting he’s set to be given a more attacking role?

Long regarded as an exciting young prospect at Arsenal, Nelson has struggled to get much more playing time after first catching the eye in pre-season just over a year ago.

The 18-year-old has had some first-team opportunities, but they’ve largely come in the League Cup and Europa League.

Like so many other English youngsters right now, Nelson seems set to move abroad to further his career, though Arsenal fans will hope this is only temporary and that he can still make it in north London.

Update: Arsenal manager Unai Emery has also been quoted by Mattias Karen as confirming Nelson’s move, and that he thinks he’s just signed a new contract before heading out on loan.

Update on the update: This has now all been confirmed by Arsenal:
