Depay, Di Maria: 8 Manchester United cast-offs who’d instantly improve Jose Mourinho’s current flops

Daley Blind

Not really a Mourinho player, nor one whose talents are perhaps best suited to the fast pace of Premier League football, but there’s surely more from Daley Blind than we really saw in his time in England.

The Netherlands international played far too many different positions for the Red Devils, never nailing down a role of his own.

However, looking at Nemanja Matic this season, you’ve got to think Blind would do a better job in that defensive role in front of the back four.

Radamel Falcao

What happened with this guy? Radamel Falcao has been a goal machine for his entire career, but had an absolutely miserable time in loan spells with both United and then Chelsea.

The Colombia international then moved back to Monaco and has been back to his old self in front of goal, and one imagines a talent like that would have been worth working with for longer.

Perhaps low on confidence or not given enough ammunition in a struggling team, Falcao is the kind of player clubs should do everything to appease and build around – at his best he’s surely a more clinical and reliable finisher than Lukaku.

Javier Hernandez

Perhaps only a squad player, but one of the best goal-poacher options from the bench you could ask for.

Javier Hernandez was a big fan favourite at United and it’s hard to see why they were so quick to get rid of him as he’s shown what he’s capable of since leaving.

The Mexican had a decent record despite limited playing time on loan at Real Madrid, and has fired the goals in with Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham since then.

Wilfried Zaha

Wilfried Zaha would be warmly welcomed back at Manchester United

And finally, one of the most talented attacking players in the Premier League on his day, Wilfried Zaha has come on leaps and bounds since barely getting an opportunity at Old Trafford.

The Ivorian’s treatment now looks incredibly harsh with hindsight, and one has to wonder how things might have gone for him if Sir Alex Ferguson had got him in earlier, or stayed one season more.

Right now, Zaha would walk into the XI of most big six clubs and that definitely includes Mourinho’s side as he looks a big upgrade on Sanchez, Rashford and even Martial.
