Liverpool lead transfer battle for Bundesliga starlet but face €90m price-tag

Liverpool reportedly lead the race in the scrap to sign Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertz, but they may have to dig deep into their pockets to land him.

The 20-year-old is enjoying a fine season this year as he’s bagged 10 goals and eight assists in 34 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.

With seven caps for Germany already to his name too, it appears as though he has a bright future ahead of him for club and country having shown plenty of potential and quality thus far.

In turn, speculation has paired him with interest from around Europe, but as reported by Calciomercato, via Don Balon, it’s suggested that Liverpool could be at the front of the queue to sign the talented youngster.

However, there could yet be a major obstacle standing in the way of a deal, as it’s added that Havertz is said to be valued at €90m by Leverkusen, and so it remains to be seen if the two parties are able to reach an agreement on a transfer fee if Liverpool aren’t willing to splash out that much.

Capable of playing on the right wing as well as in an attacking role through the middle, Havertz could be a top addition to bolster Jurgen Klopp’s options in the final third, and to give him a different dynamic and added quality to complement the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Nevertheless, time will tell how much Liverpool are willing to put on the table, and whether it’s enough to convince Leverkusen that they should sell, but continuing to try and evolve his side and keep things fresh to maintain their success will be key for Klopp moving forward.
