Chelsea legend Joe Cole has paid the ultimate compliment to Blues midfielder N’Golo Kante after his man of the match performance in the Champions League final victory over Manchester City.
The France international was immense for Chelsea as they lifted their second European Cup with a 1-0 win over City in Porto last night, adding to his incredible trophy collection.
Kante first burst onto the scene in English football with his starring role in Leicester City’s shock Premier League title triumph in 2015/16, which earned him a big move to Chelsea for the following campaign.
Kante was again a Premier League champion in his first season at Stamford Bridge, and he later won the World Cup final with the French national team in 2018.
Now the 30-year-old is a Champions League winner as well, having been named man of the match in the final last night, as well as in both legs of the semi-final win over Real Madrid.
Needless to say, ex-Blue Cole was full of praise for Kante, suggesting he may now be even better than legendary defensive midfielder Claude Makelele.
“I don’t think there is a more important player for his team in world football than N’Golo Kante. He drove this team,” Cole said on BT Sport, as quoted by BBC Sport.
“I played with Claude Makelele and I thought he was the best in that position until I saw this kid. He is Makelele plus extras.”
