“One to watch” – Pundit predicts Man United and Arsenal to target ‘intelligent’ Villa midfielder

Aston Villa, under the guidance of Unai Emery, have turned their fortunes around.

The Midlands giants, who were struggling under former boss Steven Gerrard, have gone on an inspired run under Emery, with wins coming against Man United, Chelsea and most recently Spurs.

The Villians’ 2-0 win over Spurs on New Year’s Day has heaped the pressure on Antonio Conte, but not only was the team’s performance one to applaud, it also highlighted just how good of a signing midfielder Boubacar Kamara has been.

Kamara, 23, left Marseille and joined Villa on a free transfer last summer and former attacker Stan Collymore believes it is only a matter of time before the Premier League’s top clubs, including both Man United and Arsenal, come sniffing.

“One player at Aston Villa that I have been really, really impressed with is Boubacar Kamara,” Collymore said in an exclusive interview.

Boubacar Kamara has been an excellent signing for Aston Villa.

“Villa got him in the summer on a free transfer and what a signing he is proving to be. However, because of that, I wouldn’t be surprised if a club tried to prise him away from Villa Park this month.

“Don’t get me wrong, Villa’s owners don’t need the money, but they may well look at the commercial aspect and think “well, we got him for nothing, £40m or £50m would be pure profit and we could reinvest that elsewhere.” I certainly think there will be clubs out there taking notice of him. But if we disregard the January window, if Kamara continues his upward trajectory, then the likes of Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea will all surely be looking seriously at him.”

Since arriving at Villa Park, Kamara has certainly played an important role for Emery.

Instructed to command the Villans’ midfield alongside Douglas Luiz, the pair have formed a strong partnership and that was on full display against Spurs, and Collymore believes the Kamara, in particular, has all the attributes required to become a leading holding midfielder.

“Not only is he a really sound defensive midfielder, but he’s also a really intelligent footballer,” the ex-Villa star added.

“He can turn the ball over, make ground up with the ball at his feet, has a decent range of passing and he’s extremely calm under pressure, so he’s definitely one to watch.”
