Erik Ten Hag urged to punish Man Utd star after his antics against Liverpool

Manchester United crashed to a humiliating defeat against Liverpool in the Premier League yesterday and midfielder Bruno Fernandez has been slammed for his antics during the 7-0 defeat at Anfield.

Fernandes was seen shoving the official, diving and having a go at his teammates at times during the game and the Portuguese international seemed utterly frustrated towards the end of the game.

The 28-year-old captained Manchester United against Liverpool and he was expected to lead from the front. However, the player had clearly lost his calm against Liverpool and his antics have not gone down well with former players, pundits and the fans.

There have been calls to strip the midfielder of his captaincy and it remains to be seen whether Erik ten Hag is willing to punish the player for his shameless antics.

“The Incredible Sulk racked up quite the rap sheet at Anfield,” Chris Sutton wrote in the Daily Mail.

“There was nothing professional about this behaviour. It was more befitting a petulant child, and the push on the assistant should result in a ban, no ifs and buts. Paolo Di Canio got 11 games [ban] in 1998, remember, and I wouldn’t disagree if Fernandes received the same punishment. This was shameful, embarrassing, disgraceful, whatever word you can conjure up.

“Whatever you think of Harry Maguire, the club captain, you would not catch him behaving like this on the pitch. Ten Hag dealt with the Cristiano Ronaldo problem. Now he needs to deal with Fernandes, starting with deciding whether he deserves to wear the armband in Thursday’s Europa League clash with Real Betis. I don’t think he does. Liverpool were fantastic and United were foul, and nobody embodied their deplorable display more than Fernandes.”

There is no doubt that Fernandes has been a key player for the Red Devils since joining the club, but he needs to sort out his attitude especially when he is up against adversity. The Portuguese star could have easily got himself sent off when he decided to shove the linesman during the Liverpool game and it could have proven costly for his side.

  1. 10 hag should take some of the blame woghurst,Antony not good enough but he keeps playing them shuffle the team and put gnacho & another forward on ,he has some lessons to learn

  2. A pathetic performance from the whole team. Sickening to see them all turning up at Carrington this morning in Rollers, Ferraris and other expensive flash cars. They don’t deserve pushbikes after yesterday.

    1. Wout weghorst should not and will say again NOT BE wearing a shirt , we play with 10 men every game and every min he’s on the field and people wonder why players are getting frustrated

  3. The FA have just started trialling in grassroots football the wearing of bodycams for referees. Yet they have not taken any action over Bruno Fernandes pushing an Assistant Referee. We know where the FA’s thoughts are, as always!

  4. Take a weeks pay off them all and then take two weeks pay off until there is a marked improvement in their attitude, performance and results.

  5. 1. Very good points i totally agree bench Bruno heads to big ,get rid of Weghorst and Antony.

  6. Ten Hag brought in players who are liabilities. He pretends to know stuff but he is delusional. Looking stern and walking purposefully are not Skills.

  7. Weghorst & Dalot ,are not good enough,Antony can not beat a man going forward, big Mac is a risk, Fred gives away to many free kicks and looses the ball to often,Fernandes is not captain material and quick to blame others for his mistakes ,Martial always injured.

  8. ETH get on and bring back Mason Greenwood. He is the teams utility striker.
BF as captain is sending wrong signals to his team mates as he is very fond of unnecessary appeals with the referee.
Liverpool has clearly shown us our weakness as the defenders and midfielders were totally lost.
Antony is playing for personal glory but very 8neffective last Sunday shld hv been replaced in the first half itself n Weghoustt too.
Fred is another cranky player and his substitute Mctominay, together BF are team spoilers bcos they can be easily carded.
This is one of the most shameful defeat 7-0, losing is part and parcel 9f the game but not at this scoreline.
What can be done hit all the players where it hurts theem most and that is by deducting their wages.

  9. Ronaldo was the problem huh…..ETH has brought a defeat that MU have never suffered from the mid 90’s. Now who’s the real problem? Bruno? Lol

    1. .Bruno is his own problem Always in the middle of any scuffle wanting to be top dog all the time putting himself in front of the wrong kind of action. He would nt surprise me if he burst into song when the cameras are near him .He s a bit of a Diva . Has he got an EQUITY card?
