Arsenal and Chelsea enter race to sign 10-goal La Liga attacker

Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing the Villarreal winger Alex Baena.

The 21-year-old has been a key player for the Spanish club this season scoring 10 goals and picking up 5 assists across all competitions.

A report from Fichajes claims that the two English clubs are keen on signing the player and it remains to be seen where he ends up eventually.

Arsenal could definitely use more quality in the wide areas. Mikel Arteta has had to rely on Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli as his wingers this season. The Arsenal manager needs more options to work with and the arrival of Baena will help him rotate his squad and keep the players fresh to compete on all fronts.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have already signed Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke during the January transfer window. It would be quite surprising if they decided to bring in another talented young winger who needs to play regularly.

Baena will want to join a club where he can get ample game time and a move to Arsenal is likely to be more appealing for the player.

The 21-year-old has the potential to develop into a key player for both Premier League clubs and working with managers like Arteta will only help him develop further. The Arsenal manager has helped improve a number of young players at the club and he could play a key role in the development of the Villarreal winger as well.

Meanwhile, Baena has a contract with the Spanish club until the summer of 2028 and they could demand a premium for his services.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal or Chelsea can agree on a reasonable fee for him in the coming months.
