Tottenham’s pursuit of new manager takes another twist with Ancelotti role set to be pivotal

Posted by

It’s been quite the couple of weeks for Tottenham Hotspur, with former manager, Antonio Conte’s incredible rant ensuring that the club had to part ways with him.

To add to their woes, Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, has now seen his ban from Italian football – because of irregularities at Juventus – extended to cover football clubs worldwide, per BBC Sport.

Though there’s been no official news at the time of writing, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Paratici depart north London in due course too.

What that means is the pursuit of any new manager will likely be fraught, and Daniel Levy might well be keen to take stock of the situation first before making any confirmed moves.

In any event, the situation has already been taken out of his hands to some extent.

According to 90Min, both Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino, who have been linked with the post by The Telegraph (subscription required), are waiting until the end of the season to see if the Real Madrid job comes up for grabs.

Carlo Ancelotti’s role in the Tottenham merry-go-round is therefore pivotal at this point.

The Italian has underwhelmed this season with Los Blancos already 10 points behind rivals Barcelona in the chase for the league title.

If they were to be knocked out of the Champions League by Chelsea or not go on to lift the trophy in any event, the likelihood is that Ancelotti will be asked to leave.

That opens the door for either Pochettino or Nagelsmann, leaving Tottenham dangling.
