Mason Mount transfer saga from Chelsea takes 11th hour twist

Posted by

Chelsea are one of a handful of Premier League teams for whom this summer’s transfer window will be very interesting indeed.

The Blues, perhaps more than most, need to make a real dent in the market, both in terms of player sales and purchases.

Having a new manager in charge in Mauricio Pochettino clearly changes the dynamic for Chelsea, given that the Argentinian may not like the current make-up of his squad.

With so many players needing to be shipped out too, it isn’t going to be the most pleasant environment at the training ground in Cobham.

Much of the blame for such a bloated first-team lies with owner, Todd Boehly, who clearly felt that he could spend in excess of €600m (per transfermarkt) on just about any player he wanted, and that everything would still work out nicely.

That notion was quickly put to bed, and by the end of the campaign, the Blues had become a laughing stock under Frank Lampard – their third manager of the 2022/23 season after Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.

With that season now done and dusted, it’s time for the club to look forwards rather than back, and to that end, somewhat surprisingly, Pochettino appears to want to keep hold of Mason Mount.

According to sources speaking to Simon Phillips, detailed on his Si and Dan Talk Chelsea Substack, there have been internal conversations at Chelsea suggesting that whether Mount signs a new contract or not, the Argentinian wants to keep the England international at Stamford Bridge.

  1. We don’t need him,,, he has already made up his mind, let him go,, chelsea is bigger than any player.

    1. easy bro, he hasn’t full made up his mind. the pay is too small, and he deserve a pay rise

    1. if the player wants to go let him coze that means he was never loyal. look at John Terry this has been his boyhood club and never thought of playing for any club besides for CHELSEA F. C Up the Blues…… Loyal to the Game

  2. Liverpool have enough midgets in midfield. They don’t need another one from Chelsea. Premiership is physical and players like Carvalho and Elliot struggle against bigger guys, when they play. Moreover paying so much for a reserve at Chelsea and England, you must be mad to buy him. Thank god FSG has asked others to look into transfers instead of Klopp.

    1. I don’t understand all this London club leaders sometime, a player is willing to go but you refused to let him go? Same thing with spurs too very annoying people

Look at man u e.g herera, Pogba, James, lingards etc

Why most you force a player??

  3. If he wants to go, let him. It pains me to say because I love the lad, but keeping him will only serve to make him resentful. And while I don’t think Mason would ever be the type to down tools, I think an unhappy MM would have a ripple effect on the entire dressing room. Best for Poch to start with a group of players that truly want to be here.

  4. Let Mason Mount go he is not bigger than the club .pls pls sell him off or let him go free he his useless as a player .

  5. He has to stay in Chelsea coz he is the shining player and secured Chelsea’s best player two times. He must to stay by hook or crook we need him.

  6. What a stupid owner, He want to let go long serve young promising player cos he wont raise his deserved salary. Then he want to buy new player with more money to spend & salary. What in his idiot’s mind, I don’t know.

  7. Let him go we have lost far much better players than him Frank Lampard Eden Hazard let him go he will be arotten onion he will spoil other players

  8. It pains me to say this coz I love mm, but since he has made up his mind, pls let him go and find the challenge he is looking for

  9. I like mm think this season as been hard all round what with his long term injury.
Potter should never have been given the job a mid table manager at best bloated squad no consistency. Yes give him a new deal see how it turns out if doesn’t work then sad to say let him go

  10. I suspect he’s unhappy because the club didn’t value him after he played his heart out for us, often out of position & knackered.

Could we please see the value in loyalty and not price. We have an enormous squad and an English backbone waiting to become an amazing Chelsea team. Mount, Broja, Colwill, Gallagher, Hall, Reece James, Chilwell etc. Sometimes opportunity knocks quietly. Fortunately our new manager knows this.
