Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he will leave the club at the end of the season.
The Premier League giants will now need to find a quality replacement for him and Xabi Alonso has been mentioned as a potential alternative. The 42-year-old has done an exceptional job at Bayer Leverkusen and he has guided them to the top of the league table.
The Spaniard could prove to be an excellent long-term acquisition for Liverpool. He is regarded as one of the finest young managers in the game right now and he knows the club well from his time playing at Anfield.
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has now confirmed that Liverpool have already contacted the management of the manager and they will face competition from Bayern Munich.
The German outfit are hoping to appoint him as their next manager and it remains to be seen with Liverpool can convince him to join them instead.

Replacing Klopp will be a difficult task for any manager, but Alonso certainly has the pedigree to manage at the highest level. Liverpool have an excellent squad at their disposal and Alonso could guide them to trophies in the coming seasons.
The opportunity to manage in the Premier League can be quite attractive for any manager, and a move to Liverpool will certainly excite Alonso. He has always been vocal about his admiration for Liverpool and it remains to be seen whether the Reds can secure an agreement with him.
