As part of Fenway Sports Group’s efforts to create a new organisational structure, Liverpool are expected to officially announce the appointment of Richard Hughes as their next Sporting Director.

Hughes, who resigned from AFC Bournemouth last month, is expected to work with Michael Edwards, who the Reds have recently named as the club’s CEO.

Liverpool have concluded the deal

According to Fabrizio Romano on X, Liverpool and Hughes have concluded their negotiations, and an announcement is set to be made soon.

“It’s all done between Liverpool and Richard Hughes since 15 days ago. Announcement, imminent,” wrote Romano.

“All documents are signed for new Liverpool director Richard Hughes to be unveiled as part of new Liverpool structure,” he added.

This is a part of the major restructure behind the scenes after Jurgen Klopp’s announcement that he will be leaving the Merseyside club after nine years.

Under Klopp, the Premier League club have seen tremendous success, and having a sound structure has been essential to the transformation.

Richard Hughes to Liverpool is imminent.

The advantage of a proper structure at the club cannot be underestimated. The reason behind Klopp’s and Pep Guardiola’s success has been competent people in the structure.

Under Klopp, Edwards—a former Sporting Director at Anfield—played a pivotal role in elevating the Reds to unprecedented heights.

Liverpool’s success is down to impressive structure

Edwards has had an equally important part in the club’s transition, even if the German manager deserves a great deal of credit for it.

Under Edwards’ direction off the field, the Premier League club recruited players like Fabinho, Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, and Sadio Mane, among others, who were crucial to the team’s success.

It will be up to the incoming CEO and Sporting Director to select Klopp’s replacement as manager.

The front-runner is former Reds player and Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso.
