Wayne Rooney has claimed it will take Manchester City star Phil Foden another ten years to reach the goal scoring level of Mohamed Salah.
Foden has been in superb form for City this season and is arguably in the best form of his career, scoring 14 goals and providing eight assists in 30 Premier League appearances.
The 23-year-old has played a big part as Pep Guardiola’s side look to win back to back trebles with the club still fighting on three fronts.
Rooney claims it will take Foden ten years to reach Salah’s goal scoring level
Former Manchester United striker Rooney has used the praise Foden is getting to highlight that he doesn’t feel Salah gets enough credit.
The Egyptian has 35 goal contributions this season and sits third in the Premier League scoring charts on 17 goals, one behind Ollie Watkins and two behind Erling Haaland.
United’s record scorer told Premier League productions: “He’s (Salah) such an incredible player. I still don’t think he gets the credit he deserves. Of course, for some Liverpool fans, he is right up there.
“You are seeing different players getting recognition, such as de Bruyne. But what he has been doing for the last three or four years is incredible. The numbers he keeps producing.
“He’s such a top world-class player, unfortunately, he is playing at Liverpool”, Rooney added.
“He is somebody that I really enjoy watching. He is a player, who at times in games, you feel like he isn’t interested in the game, but they are always the most dangerous players. You almost forget about them, at times, and then, all of a sudden, he comes to life and changes the game.
“I just don’t think he gets the credit he deserves. You look at Phil Foden, for instance, playing in a similar role, he has got another eight, nine and ten years to get to the numbers Mo Salah has. I would like to see him get more credit.”
Guardiola described Foden as a real top class player and said he can be whatever he wants after his hat-trick in the 4-1 win over Aston Villa last week.
