Newcastle United star opens up on future amid exit rumours

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has broken his silence on his future with the player constantly being linked with a move away from the club.

To comply with Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, the Magpies have been linked with a sale this summer in order to balance their finances.

The name that has been mentioned constantly in the media with an exit from St. James’ Park is of Wilson.

After almost being sold in January, the striker stayed at the club as a back-up of first choice attacker Alexander Isak.

Chelsea and Atletico Madrid showed interest in the striker in January but the move did not materialise.

Wilson, nevertheless, has once again surfaced as a player who may depart the team when the summer transfer market opens.

The striker has just over a year left on his current contract at St. James’ Park, and the club has to sell players this summer to generate money for incoming transfers.

He told the reporters when asked about his future, as reported by Chronicle Live:

“It’s the next three games. My focus and first thought is just to finish the season strong.

“Then try to get myself into the tournament in the summer. And I am contracted to Newcastle so I will be back for pre-season.”

The striker is trying hard to make an impression for Gareth Southgate to take him to the Euros this summer.

“I’d be lying if I was to say I didn’t have one eye on trying to make an impression over the last four games. But that’s all you can do.” Wilson said, as reported by The Shields Gazette.

“There are strikers that have had fantastic seasons, there is no getting away from that, so it gives the manager an extra dilemma and an extra person to choose from, so who knows what the next few games bring?”

Wilson has been a huge hit at Newcastle United

The striker is closing in on scoring 50 goals for the Premier League club, having scored 48 goals for the Magpies already.

Wilson would be hoping to continue his scoring run against Brighton in the final home match of the season.

The Toon Army then travel to Man United and Brentford to finish off their Premier League season.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe wants to keep Wilson at the club next season and stated his desire to do everything to keep the striker.
