Real Madrid have revived their interest in Martin Zubimendi, with Arsenal facing a potentially significant decision over the Spain international before the summer transfer window closes.
Zubimendi enjoyed a memorable first season in north London after arriving from Real Sociedad, helping Arsenal win the Premier League before adding the World Cup with Spain this summer.
However, the £75 million arrival of Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United has created even greater competition in Mikel Arteta’s already stacked midfield.
With Declan Rice, Guimarães, Martin Ødegaard, Mikel Merino and Zubimendi all competing for minutes, Real Madrid appear ready to test whether Arsenal would consider cashing in.
Real Madrid are considering Zubimendi move
According to Football.London, Real Madrid are interested in bringing Zubimendi back to Spain as they reconsider their midfield options.
Madrid were already keen on the 27-year-old before he joined Arsenal last summer but were unable to derail his move to the Emirates. The Spanish giants are now assessing another attempt following Guimarães’ arrival.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Arsenal would demand at least €90 million, around £77m, before considering a sale.
Chelsea are also interested, creating the possibility of serious competition for his signature.
The Spanish outlet adds that Zubimendi initially played an important role at Arsenal before a knee problem interrupted his momentum and reduced his involvement later in the campaign.
Former Barcelona manager Xavi praised Zubimendi in the past by calling him a ‘top‘ player.
Arsenal should think carefully before making decision
Guimarães’ arrival undoubtedly changes Arsenal’s midfield picture, but selling Zubimendi after just one season would still be a major call.
At £77m, Arsenal would receive a healthy return on a player they signed from Real Sociedad last year.
If Arteta believes Guimarães and Rice will become his preferred midfield combination, accepting such an offer could provide significant funds for another attacking or defensive signing.
However, elite squads need elite depth. Arsenal are defending the Premier League title while targeting the Champions League, and injuries can quickly turn apparent midfield overcrowding into a shortage.
If Zubimendi does push for more guaranteed football, selling him to Real Madrid would also be far more appealing than strengthening Chelsea, a direct domestic rival.
Arsenal therefore have little reason to lower their valuation. Zubimendi remains under a long-term contract, and Madrid’s previous interest gives the Gunners leverage.

Anderson went for £116m and he wasn’t in the world’s top 10 defensive midfielders, Where as Zubimendi is ranked 6th with Rice ranked 3rd best. Anderson wasn’t even listed in the top 10.
So although older world cup winner, Zubimendi would be worth well north of £100m.
But Arsenal would prefer to keep him, so he is not for sale as we were short last year in that department with the amount of games being too much. But Arteta could be tempted if offered north of £100m.
