Who Dares Predict McClaren’s Madness?

Posted by

For many of us, the terrifying reality that Steve McClaren is England coach has not yet set in. It’s not that he’s done particularly poorly in the Premiership and he even reached a European final, it’s simply that anyone so influential during Sven’s reign is tough to get excited about.

But Stevie M, or Stevesy to his friends, to his credit has promise big, big changes and – for better or worse – to do it ‘his’ way…ugh.

Regardless, Macca will soon be announcing his squad and new captain ahead of the match against Greece and already there are some sort-of-surprises with Arsenal’s Theo Walcott, Liverpool’s Scott Carson and Charlton’s Darren Bent dropped down to the U21’s for some experience or something ridiculous like that.

But surely not even someone as boring as McClaren could consider those to be particularly revolutionary.

So before his official selections are put out there for us all to laugh at, we want to hear what changes you would make to the England squad in terms of selection and/or tactics.

To help out, below is Sven’s final squad and they lined up in some kind of ineffective 4-4-2 and then awful 4-5-1 towards the end:

Goalies: Robinson, James, Carson
Defenders: G Neville, Ferdinand, Cole, Campbell, Carragher, Bridge
Midfielders: Beckham, Carrick, Lampard, Gerrard, Hargreaves, Jenas, Downing, J Cole, Lennon
Forwards: Rooney, Owen, Crouch, Walcott

So go nuts, kick out Jenas and bring in Parker, replace in Ashton, replace Walcott with someone who has actually played football.

We’ll check back here after Stevesy has made his choices to see how everyone’s changes compared.
