Shame on us for thinking it was against Premiership rules to say stuff like this about another team’s player, but Portsmouth’s floppy faced boss Harry Redknapp reckons he already knows Sylvain Distin’s future lies away from Manchester City,
“I like Sylvain. He’s got great pace, is good in the air, has a good left foot and is a quality player,” said Redknapp.
“He will go somewhere else when he’s out of contract in the summer.”
It would be another bit of shrewd transfer business if Redders was to pick up Distin as a long term replacement, short term partner, for Sol Campbell and shore up an already stingy defense. But there shouldn’t be a shortage of other clubs in for a fast, strong centre back with Premiership experience and a bit of leadership about him, especially that “new money” lot.
So we’re guessing West Ham, Aston Villa and Portsmouth will all be turning up at Ches Distin with briefcases full of cash, while ever-rebuilding sides like former club Newcastle and Tottenham probably shouldn’t be turning away any defensive help right now. Unless Harry’s already got the lad signed on the dotted line and just hasn’t told anyone about it yet.
