Wenger: We Are Still In The Title Race

After being torn to shreds 4-1 by Liverpool, Arsene Wenger has been under plenty of heat from the Gunner faithful who are starting to utter the phrase “Arsene knows…” with a little less conviction.

Wenger, though, holds no such doubts about his choices apparently and even believes the club is still in the title race. He told the Arsenal Journal Of Medicine and Science,

“Why are you trying to make a problem from nothing? I played the right tactics with the right players, as I have all season, and the players did not perform yet again. Before the match we had the same ritual, we huge each other and say that good football will always prevail over evil football. But the players are letting themselves down, Baptista is meant to be a goal machine but he is not scoring. Hleb is supposed to replace Robert Pires, but why is he not scoring goals like Robert or getting forward like Robert? What did we pay all that money for”

He added, “I’m as curious as you are to see how they do next match, hopefully better.”

When quizzed about Arsenal’s title chances, Wenger was equally bullish,

“We are still in it. Why not? We went unbeatable for an entire season so we can win all our remaining games while Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool lose all their games. Stranger things have happened, like me suddenly deciding that Aliadiere was an acceptable striking option.”
