Latest Transfer Rumours: Robben, Petrov, Nugent, Arteta, Woodgate, Davis, Craig Gordon

The world of Premiership transfer gossip is full of nonsense, but some nonsense is more interesting that the other nonsense. Speculation is rife in the likes of the Mirror, Daily Mail, Times, Sun and… err… Tribal Football all do their best to predict and/or completely make up the future.

Here’s our opinion on the Premiership transfer rumours we’ve read in the papers and around the net… and if you have any thoughts, pop em in the comments.

Tottenham are preparing a mega bid for Chelsea winger Arjen Robben, with Martin Petrov a backup plan.CaughtOffside Says:A rumour as old as the Sun. The hot thing, not the paper. Chelsea won’t let him go without a spectacular replacement, so Tottenham fans better start warming to Petrov or else hope that Chelsea splash the big bucks again this summer.

Everton will sign David Nugent if Preston fail to be promoted.CaughtOffside Says:Everton seem to have a decent stable of strikers, though consistency has still been a problem. Nugent would give them another player of a slightly different mold to balance them out nicely. A good fit for Noogs.

Steven Davis could leave Aston Villa in order to play in the middle rather than out wide.CaughtOffside Says:We rate Davis. Feisty, good on the ball, but in all honesty he will almost always be considered too lightweight to play in the middle by any ambitious Premiership team. Best to practice crossing from out wide and pipe down.

Despite the player’s annoyance at talk of an exit, Real Zaragoza are in contact with Mikel Arteta’s agent regarding a move to La Liga.CaughtOffside Says:Arteta is extremely underrated. A player of tremendous quality who wouldn’t be out of place at any of the Big Four. As with Dimitar Berbatov, the club will have to show him ambition to match his loyalty in the short term, because the latter will change if not.

Middlesbrough are set to announce the permanent signing of Jonathan Woodgate.CaughtOffside Says:Great news for Boro, bad news for everyone else. The club probably agreed a fee at the time of the loan, because with Woodie looking healthy and playing well – there would certainly have been a much more protracted transfer saga involving a lot more clubs.

Arsenal are poised to make a bid for Hearts keeper Craig Gordon in the summer, although Gunners star Jens Lehmann is set to sign a one-year contract extension.CaughtOffside Says:A smart move by Arsenal, cracks are appearing in Lehmann’s performance to match the one’s in his state of mind.
