Latest Premiership Transfer Rumours: Torres, Bale, Berbatov, Sidwell, Roberts, Nugent, Barton, Reyes, Babel and Fernandes

The world of Premiership transfer gossip is full of nonsense, but some nonsense is more interesting that the other nonsense. Speculation is rife in the likes of the Mirror, Daily Mail, Times, Sun and… err… Tribal Football all do their best to predict and/or completely make up the future.

Here’s our opinion on the Premiership transfer rumours we’ve read in the papers and around the net… and if you have any thoughts, pop em in the comments.

Spain striker Fernando Torres, Southampton’s Gareth Bale, Tottenham’ Dimitar Berbatov and Reading’s Steve Sidwell are also on United’s wants list.CaughtOffside Says: We reckon Torres is going to be one of those permanently linked players who will just never arrive. But the rest of the list might be enough to counter the 1 billion Chelsea spend this summer.

Celtic are lining up a £3m swoop for Blackburn striker Jason Roberts.CaughtOffside Says:Jason Roberts and “key Premiership striker” probably weren’t going to come up very often, but that’s exactly what he is to Mark Hughes’ team that bases their game around a pair of powerful strikers. Don’t see any reason why the club would accept the bid or why Roberts would want to leave.

Everton boss David Moyes is set to win the race for £8m Preston striker David Nugent despite interest from Sunderland.CaughtOffside Says:A ridiculous price for an unproven Championship striker, but then he’s bound to be better than James Beattie. But then so is everyone in the entire universe.

Joey Barton is available for 5.5M from Manchester City.CaughtOffside Says:A real test of the general rule that footballers will always find a job somewhere. No doubt someone will feel they can put Joey on the right path and turn him back from “More Psycho Steven Gerrard” to simply a “Crapper Steven Gerrard”.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is travelling to Real Madrid this week to try to bring Jose Reyes back to the Emirates.CaughtOffside Says:Don’t they own him already? Or does the deal include returning to Spain everyday at 5pm so he can go to whatever shops are always open there.

Arsenal want Ryan Babel from Ajax.CaughtOffside Says: More young, unproven wingers! More! Bahahaha!

Everton are unlikely to take up a £12m option to sign Benfica’s on-loan star Manuel Fernandes.CaughtOffside Says:Fernandes has looked very good, but Everton probably don’t want to spend that much on one player so it’s a sound decision by Moyes. If Benfica rate this lad so highly, we’re not quite sure why the hell they don’t just play him.
