Premiership Transfer Rumours: Van Persie, Quaresma, Gudjohnsen, Kaboul, Fred and Ben Arfa

The world of Premiership transfer gossip is full of nonsense, but some nonsense is more interesting that the other nonsense. Speculation is rife in the likes of the Mirror, Daily Mail, Times, Sun and… err… Tribal Football all do their best to predict and/or completely make up the future.

Here’s our opinion on the Premiership transfer rumours we’ve read in the papers and around the net… and if you have any thoughts, pop em in the comments.

Bayern Munich want Arsenal’s Robin van Persie.CaughtOffside Says: Bayern are struggling, Van Persie is becoming a major cog at Arsenal. So, that pretty much means this one is utter bollocks.

Arsenal is competing with Inter Milan for the signature of £15 million rated Ricardo Quaresma from Porto.CaughtOffside Says: Wenger may be put off expensive young wingers after the Jose Reyes debacle, and at that price he’ll probably go for someone a bit more proven.

West Ham are poised to make an £8m offer for Barcelona’s Eidur Gudjohnsen, but Manchester United and Sunderland are also interested.CaughtOffside Says:Gudjohnsen would be a great fit at United, as Sir Alex favours strikers capable of dropping deep. Eidur seems like a pretty ambitious lad, and we question whether he’ll go to a developing project like West Ham when plenty of established “Big” clubs would gladly snap him up.

Tottenham have beaten Lyon in the race to sign France U21 captain Younes Kaboul from Auxerre.CaughtOffside Says:That would mean that Ledley King, Michael Dawson, Ricardo Rocha, Anthony Gardner and Younes Kaboul all compete for 2 centre backs spots. Only at Spurs…

Aston Villa are considering a £1.5m bid for Kilmarnock forward Steven Naismith.CaughtOffside Says:Martin O’Neill seems quite happy to use his knowledge of Scotland to pick up bargains, but with Lerner’s money we’d be surprised if he spends on anyone other than players ready to make an immediate impact. Villa have plenty of talented youngsters already.

Tottenham and Arsenal are competing to sign Lyon duo Fred and Ben Arfa.CaughtOffside Says: Sounds like lazy tabloid bollocks to us, but anytime Spurs and Gooners could potentially be competing is entertaining to us. But the smart money is on Fred and Ben Arfa signing for neither.
