Should Arsenal Have Tried Harder To Sign Franck Ribery?

01022005_ribery_09.jpgArsene Wenger tried to warn them. Thierry Henry said he was a bit crap. But Arsenal supporters still wanted him and some had already assumed they’d get him, including him in their formations for next season.

But Bayern Munich signed him.

Many neutrals had also assumed Marseille’s Franck Ribery was on his way to the Emirates with only the matter of the fee getting in the way, but it appears that was more than enough. Bayern are paying an estimated £17million for the France winger and given the amount of interest that appeared to be coming out of North London – it must be assumed that Wenger or the club were unwilling to match the bid.

Either that or Wenger – true to his word – did not feel that the squad needs Franck Ribery, or a player like Franck Ribery, and certainly not at that price. Right now, it looks like more untested 16 year olds will be rolled out come Premiership opening weekend.

Has “Wenger knows…” been tested yet again?
