Tottenham’s “Injured” Paul Robinson is backed by Martin Jol for the millionth time

There are two factor’s about Monday night’s game between Newcastle and Spurs that everyone should keep in mind. Serial conceder Paul Robinson is Tottenham’s first choice keeper whilst serial goalscorer Michael Owen is first choice striker for Newcastle.

However, using his dutch clairvoyance skills, Tottenham ogre-cum-manager Martin Jol has voiced his unfaltering confidence in Paul Robinson. This confidence might stem from the fact that Robinson isn’t actually going to play the Geordies after (conveniently?) picking up a calf strain whilst on England “duty”.

Jol declared:

“Paul was assessed, and it showed that he had picked up a calf strain while on England duty that will prevent him playing for us on Monday.Paul is playing for us – and when he played for England he always did well. They were very satisfied with him – otherwise he would not be number one because at international level you can pick five, six or seven England goalkeepers. I’m a realistic man – you can come up with all the criticisms, and it’s not my business. I want to focus on the Newcastle match.”

So Jol can think of “five, six or seven England goalkeepers” – that’s news to us. The best we can come up with is Gaffemaster General Paul Robinson, David Calamity James, and Scott Utterly Unproven Carson. Right now Robinson is playing like superman, and footballs are kryptonite, at any rate Jol has got to be positive, Robbo won’t be playing the Toon. Phew!
