Manchester United’s Canadian Wierdo Will Miss Some England Games. Anyone Care?

Owen Hargreaves – once the villain of English football, then the hero, then the sort of middling holding midfield you forget about – won’t be playing for England this weekend.

“Owen Hargreaves is recovering from a long-term injury,” said an FA spokesman. “Having discussed it with Manchester United, it was felt he should remain in Manchester for treatment until the weekend – with the emphasis on his fitness for the Croatia qualifier.”

Let’s be honest Owen, you couldn’t be bothered to play in it and who can blame you? We can’t be bothered to watch the pointless friendly. And, as the Guardian so rightfully point out, this may not be the only pointless England game you miss in the next seven days.

The obvious implication from that statement is that Hargreaves will link up with the England squad only should Russia fail to win in Israel on Saturday, thus restoring qualification back into the hands of McClaren and his team.

We agree. So let’s just scrap this whole pretense and let the players have the week off, they much prefer club football anyway, we all know that.
