Former Tottenham Captain Thinks Arsenal’s Bubble Will Burst This Season

First it was Emmanuel Petit mouthing off about John Terry and Ashley Cole not playing for England, despite turning out for Chelsea only days later. Now another Setanta ‘expert’ has decided to question Arsenal’s staying power. Step forward forward Mr Tim Sherwood:

I keep asking questions about Arsenal like ‘When is the bubble going to burst?’ Because I don’t honestly believe that they can go through the season and win The Premier League. I think teams will suss them out, and a team with a little bit more quality, if they step into their faces like Aston Villa did in the second half, will find them out.

While it’s true that the Villains came close to equalising during the second half of Saturday’s evening match, it’s surely testament to the resilience (and crossbar) of the Gunners that they held firm. How many tougher tests will Arsenal have to pass with flying colours this season before their title credentials are no longer brought into question?

Arsene Wenger’s men have demonstrated at Anfield and Villa Park that they can outplay the opposition in their own backyard for large parts of the game, without some of their so-called key players. Their only concern on Saturday would have been their failure to turn first-half possession into a more commanding lead at the interval.
