The Telegraph are reporting that Everton’s Yakubu, fresh off scoring a hat-trick against Fulham, has announced that he’ll be trotting off to the African Cup of Nations in January…
“I played a couple of games for Nigeria in the summer and, if I am called up for the African Cup of Nations, I will be going.I will be a bit sad because there are important games coming up here, but everybody wants to play for their country. I have to play for them and I am ready for it if they call me up.”
Yakubu’s second half treble boosted his goal tally to 9 in 17 appearances but the fact that he’ll be away in January means that Moyes will have to cope without him for a bulging possible fixture list two-legged Carling Cup semi-final, five Premier League games and even a possible FA Cup fourth-round tie. Everton have a big squad, but they’ll miss Yak and his goals.
