Top Three Norwich City January Transfer Targets

Who will Paul Lambert bring to Carrow Road?

1. Josh McEachran

After some promising appearances last season under Carlo Ancelotti last season, Josh McEachran has played little under the Italian’s successor at Chelsea.

Andre Villas Boas acknowledges the midfielder’s potential, but evidently does not feel McEachran is ready for the intensity of the football the Portuguese boss is attempting to introduce at Stamford Bridge.

McEachran could benefit from regular first team football in the Premier League, and Paul Lambert has proven himself a highly capable manager willing to adapt his formation and selection based on the opposition.

18 year-old midfielder McEachran is a quality passer of the ball, and though he still has much to learn, his creativity could prove a valuable asset for Norwich City.

2. Emmanuel Frimpong

Arsenal starlet Emmanuel Frimpong would be another quality signing, with there being a possibility that the anchor midfielder could be available on a loan basis in the new year.

A temporary move could help both parties, but with Norwich already having signed Kyle Naughton and Ritchie De Laet on loan this season, the former may have to be made a permanent deal before further loan deals are done.

Frimpong is keener to go on loan than his boss Arsene Wenger is to let him go though.

“At the moment it’s hard for me to get into the team, no doubt about that,” admitted Frimpong earlier this month.

“When you aren’t playing, the obvious choice is to go out for a little while and try to get some game time.

“When January comes we’ll see, you never know how things will go, so we’ll look at it then.”

With Norwich having managed just one win on the road so far this season, perhaps additional protection for their back line is what is needed in away games.

3. Brek Shea

USA international Brek Shea, 21, is widely expected to join a top flight European club in the not too distant future.

In November he trained with Arsenal, though he is not deemed quite ready to make such a drastic step up from the MLS just yet despite impressing in his 9 international appearances.

The FC Dallas starlet was voted into the top three players in the Major League Soccer this season though, and thanks to his 6’3″ frame, he would offer quite a presence on the left wing – as well as offer something different to any other player in that position in the country.

Shea isn’t just limited to the left wing though, and can fill in many positions across the pitch.

Such versatility could come in handy for Norwich, and should he progress as expected, he could be sold for a tidy profit one day should they be willing to make the gamble now.
