The father of Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has dashed the hope of a number of top European sides according to ESPN.

The Uruguayan striker is currently one of the hottest properties in football with a host of the game’s biggest clubs attempting to secure his signature.

But the player’s dad has revealed that he believes that should his son decide to leave Napoli, he will leave for a club playing in La Liga.

Cavani is thought to be likely to leave this summer after it was revealed that he has a £50 million transfer release clause that would leave Napoli powerless to prevent his departure.

Real Madrid were thought to be in pole position to sign Cavani and the statement from the player’s father confirms the Spanish giants as favourites to land his signature.

The news will come as a disappointment to the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City who were also thought to be keen on the player.

Their attentions may now turn instead to Atletico Madrid’s Colombian forward, Radamel Falcao.

The forward is reportedly available for a similar sort of price and Atletico recently confirmed that they would be willing to sell the player should the right offer come in.
