Midfielder dismisses speculation linking him to Anfield.
Liverpool’s attempts to sign Shakhtar Donetsk’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan were plunged into uncertainty last night according to The Express.
The Anfield club have been strongly linked with the Armenia captain and were thought to be favourites to secure his signature.
Liverpool were expected to confirm his signing in the coming days but it now appears that negotiations are not as advanced as were once thought.
Shakhtar reportedly informed Liverpool that they would have to stump up £20 million to secure Mkhitaryan’s services with the Anfield club happy to oblige.
But it appears that the player may be ready to throw a spanner into the works after dismissing rumours linking him with a move.
Writing on his Facebook page, Mkhitaryan declared that he was pleased that people were showing interest in his career but asked they people stopped spreading false information.
The midfielder’s words strongly imply that he is unaware of any substance to the speculation linking him with a move to join up with Brendan Rodgers’ men.
The move will come as a blow to Liverpool who though they had beaten off competition from the likes of PSG and Juventus for the player’s signature.
They will at least be able to console themselves with the news that the signing of Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo is now a confirmed deal.
