Manchester United striker ready to make move to Catalan giants.
The Sun are reporting that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney would prefer a move to Barcelona should he leave Old Trafford this summer.
The England international has been strongly linked with a move away from the club over the last few months after a souring of relations.
Rooney was said to be furious at being dropped for United’s Champions League last sixteen tie against Real Madrid last season while also being frustrated at his diminished role in the team in general since the arrival of Robin Van Persie last summer.
Prior to his retirement, previous United boss Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that Rooney had handed in a transfer request, although that has since been denied by the club.
But with United continuing to be linked with the likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski and Naploli’s Edinson Cavani, and David Moyes keen to put his own mark on the team, it is looking increasingly likely that Rooney’s United career could be about to come to an end.
Barcelona is said to be Rooney’s preferred option and it is thought that the La Liga champions are firm admirers of the player. It is understood that Barcelona officials believe Rooney’s work-rate would fit in well with the club’s high-tempo system.
PSG, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Arsenal are also thought to be monitoring the situation.
