Striker unavailable for first Cup game

For the second year in a row Armed Forces striker Marlon James will be sitting out the opening Malaysia Cup game.

The Vicentian attacker will be suspended for The Gladiators clash against Sime Darby, he helped his side to the final of the competition last year, winning the Golden Boot in the process.

Speaking to the Malaysian Star James said: “It’s basically the same with me … I’ll have to sit out our opening match like last season but I don’t think my team will miss me too much.

We had been working hard in training to prepare for the Malaysia Cup. We have Hai-0 (Hairuddin Omar) and Nizaruddin in the team, both of them can get us the goals.”

The 36-year-old also spoke about how work ethic would be the key to a successful season for his Armed Forces side.

“We were the better team in the league but unfortunately we could only finish sixth in the league.

“However, nothing has changed for us in the Malaysia Cup. We want to win titles. In fact, we will be hungrier to win the Malaysia Cup after coming close to winning it last season.”
