The young Bulgaria Under-21 international was recently invited to train with the Red Devils’ U21 squad at their Carrington HQ, with a view to United running their eye over the giant centre back.
However, new United head coach David Moyes may have to act fast though if he wants to lure Velkov to Old Trafford next month after it emerged that Serie A giants Juventus and Inter Milan were also both keen on signing the 17-year-old in January too.
Velkov, who was recently called up to the Bulgaria senior squad, has managed to register two goals and one assist in total already so far for both his club and country this season in his 26 appearances, 17 of which have come in the league for his club.
And with the central defender standing at 6ft 3ins, Velkov already has the stature and physique to cope successfully with the aerial demands that come a centre back’s way in the Premier League.
